Who can use the “CMA” designation in Ontario?
Only Members of CMA Ontario are permitted to use the professional designations “Certified Management Accountant”, “comptable en management accrédité”, “Registered Industrial Accountant” and “comptable en administration industrielle”, and to use the initials “C.M.A.”, “CMA”, “R.I.A.” and “RIA”, pursuant to the Certified Management Accountants Act, 2010.
It is prohibited for anyone who is not a Member to use these designations, alone or in combination with other words or abbreviations. It is also prohibited for a non-member to hold him or herself out as a Certified Management Accountant. These are offences under the Certified Management Accountants Act, 2010 and conviction can result in fines and other costs.
